Provisional Cast On?

I'm anxiously awaiting my yarn - I also choose the Elan Luna in Burnt Clay - to get started. I have been perusing the pattern and reading other's progress....I looked at a tutorial about the Provisional Cast On and it kinda freaks me out....are there any other cast on methods that could be substituted or do I have to just figure this provisional thing and quit being a baby. Any feedback will be appreciated and may potentially help my anxiety.

Hey! I just tried the provisional cast on on a sock and it only looks hard. I used the crochet hook method. I think the point of it is so you can take out the waste yarn and pick up the live stitches and begin knitting with them and it will look seamless. Not sure if you'd be able to use another type but I haven't cast on for this KAL yet so maybe someone else might be able to help you out there. Planning to check gauge this weekend and cast on. Hope that helps a little.

Apparetly you can use a cicular needle cable insted of waste yarn -it's an actual video - hop it helps - it's what I plan to try
