Help!

Does anyone know of a pattern for a knit hat that's tight around the head? My husband is shaved bald and every hat I knit for him gets stretched out (simple ribbed hat, london beanie)...any tips? Thanks for any help...oh, and GREAT nominations out there! I can't wait to get started!!!

Maybe try adding elastic? Make a folded hem of some sort, like you'd put on the bottom hem of a sweater, and inside the hem put some narrow elastic. It would be kind of a pain.... but elastic is designed to not stretch out, so it might help.

Or maybe it has to do with the type of yarn you're using? Try something with better shape-memory? Or make them slightly larger, so they don't have to stretch out so much to fit on his head?
Or have you tried washing the hats and re-shaping them, to see if they can be un-stretched?

I posted a reply a few days ago...not sure where it went. I made a mistake rib hat based on this pattern for my brother-in-law, who shaves his head. He's worn it many times since Christmas and loves the fit. I used Mountain Colors 4/8 wool, a worsted weight wool, on size 9 needles. As long as you use a soft, high quality wool, it shouldn't be scratchy on his head. Good luck!
