And the Winner Is...

Sahara. The knit along will officially begin April 1st and will run until mid May.

I would like to thank each and every one of you who responded to my plea for help, and a big thanks to Carissa who is putting together Flickr Groups for each of our knit alongs (see post right below this one) and Miss M who helped assemble all the nominations for this past poll. Please be sure to get your photos uploaded to the appropriate Flickr Groups so that we can WOW all those who are checking out our previous knit alongs. The more pics we have uploaded to each group, the better!

Once again I would like to address the issue of posting once again. Please please please, if you are going to post, please post responsibly by checking for (and deleting) multiple posts. We are unable to delete multiple posts from our end, but if each one of you could check back approximately 15 minutes after you post to make sure your post didn't publish multiple times, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Edited To Add: It's official! Due to popular demand, this next knit along will be another "double" knit along and will include anybody who would like to knit Rusted Root!

Can we do the top two like the last KAL? I am itching to do Rusted Root as well as Sahara.

I have no problem what-so-ever with including Rusted Root in this knit along. Feel free!

Susan,

You go girl! I wish I could too, but I have so many UFO's that I will have to control myself and go back and make the others that I liked once I get a few more of the ufo's accounted for. I will be watching for yours. Happy Knitting!

I'll join you with the Rusted Root, Susan! Rusted seems a little friendlier $$$-wise, and I'm a total sucker for square necks. I would love to know if anyone has any ideas for less expensive yarn substitutions for Sahara, though, and then I might consider it. Thanks!

I was going to sit this knit along out because I don't want to support anything that uses Tili Thomas yarn but I will gladly join you in knitting Rusted Root!

I'm headed to my LYS at lunch tomorrow. I will see what advice she has on the yarn sub, as I want the same info. I'll post what I discover for everyone's benefit!

Michelle B said...

OH I like rusted root too...I already have the pattern for Saharah. OH they do have some sub yarn recommended with the pattern. One was Knit picks one...

yay!!

I may jump on the bandwagon with the Rusted Root..if I can clear some needles!
I too felt like michelle and did not want to endorse Tili Thomas..but if there are yarn substitutions..then maybe I will knit Sahara as well. I love Wendy and Diva knits..
If anyone cound post about substitutions it would be greatly appreciated!=)

hey there... long time reader, first time commenter... wanted to let you know that somehow you managed to get your dates moved to 2008 on the tops of each entry recently. Thanks!

Jeanie said...

Hi Sara -- The dates are advanced intentionally to keep my posts at the top of the page for all other SKC'ers to see. But kudos to you for de-lurking!

Lurker66 said...

Isn't Tilli Tomas the yarn company that had so many people upset not too long ago? Why would stitch Diva use their yarn in her patterns?

Heather said...

Count me in for rusted root. It will be my first participation in this KAL and I am super excited!

Knittymuggins said...

Wendy has some reader FO's on her site (knitandtonic.typepad.com)that include finished Sahara's using substitute yarns. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is Debbie Bliss's Cashmerino Aran. But the pattern says any worsted weight yarn will do.... Hope this helps :) I had no idea Tilli Thomas was so expensive!

Susan said...

I'm psyched to see so many on board. I bought the listed yarn online for Rusted Root for only $3.75/skein. 215 yards per skein to boot. Can't beat that price.

Yay! Fabulous idea! I don't think Sahara will work for my body type, but I'll join you in knitting Rusted Root. This will me my first KAL!

Carissa B said...

So....why don't people like Tili Thomas??

Here is an excellent resource with LOTS more information about Tilli Tomas and other companies who are similar in their business ethics.

www.consumerfriendlyyarns.blogspot.com.

I think the SKC just finished a whole knit along using patterns that only used consumer friendly yarns.

I would love to join this KAL... I have had this pattern for a couple of months. I am just finishing up the Simple knit bodice now and love how it is looking.. What do I need to do to join this KAL..

Thanks Tammy in Ak

Hooray! Sahara is gorgeous, but I have the yarn and pattern for Rusted Root all ready. I'll just bump that one up in my priority list!

Mallory said...

YAY Rusted Root!!! I really wanted to knit Rusted Root with the SKC, and I'm not as crazy about Sahara. WOOHOO!

Unknown said...

Yeah!
This is my 1st KAL. I've got the yarn, got the pattern. Just have to stop on the way home and get the 6's.

I'm stunned that we are choosing a pattern that calls for Tilli Tomas yarns!!! We made a point to no longer support Tilli Tomas after finding out about their keystone pricing policies and following Sarah's Yarns experience with Tilli Tomas. Sahara is lovely and I realize other yarns could be substituted, but it still goes against the Consumer Friendly principles we were anxious to follow for the last KAL.

MelissaW. said...

Well I for one am a little excited about Sahara. I didn't vote for it, but after checking out the pattern more in detail, I'm lovin it. Downloaded my pattern and ready to roll with a substitution yarn!

Kelly said...

I, too, am excited about Sahara. I voted for it, and I love it. I won't be using the Tilli Tomas yarn -- before I knew about the controversy, I'd already decided it was way too expensive. I hope my substitute yarn works well. I guess we'll find out!

Dee said...

I am so excited that the pattern I voted for actually won! :D I, too, will be using a substitite yarn, most likely from Knit Picks. Both for Consumer Friendly reasons and price.

I'm just below the Chevron Lace part of the second sleeve on my Simple Knitted Bodice, too. :)

Amanda said...

Woo hoo! I really wanted an excuse to knit Rusted Root! "the Sexy Knitters made me do it!" Now I am off to yarn shop!

Lisa said...

As promised, I went to my LYS. After an extensive look at all of our options, I settled with Berroco Glace and Berroco Zodiac. All of the staff leaned heavily towards the Berroco line for this pattern. They even had a staff member who is making the pattern at the local Stitch and Bitch, and she is using Berroco subs.

Good luck and happy knitting. I know that I am very excited and I'll be making my swatches this week so that I am totally ready to move to the sweater.

woo hoo i was so dissappointed when rusted root didn't make it and now i'm happy! i have the yarn and i have the pattern...i may actually do both this time around as i can deal with sahara if i make the neckline less plunging and used a substitute yarn.

Unknown said...

I couldn't wait another week. I started my Sahara yesterday.

Susan said...

I am finishing up the Not-So-Shrunken Cardigan by Wendy Bernard, so that's the only thing keeping me from starting Rusted Root early! I should be finised the cardigan this week, which is perfect timing!

I'm bummed, there's no way I can get excited about knitting Sahara, it's way too similar to the Simple Knitted Bodice (both yarn AND pattern-wise). When I first looked at it, I thought it was just a variation or knock-off of SKB. I'm going to have to wait until next KAL; rusted root is adorable but I don't have the arms for the puff sleeve.

Casey said...

Very nice all V Necks, thats a plus for the sexy knitters club.

JustMe said...

So I've got my yarn for Rusted Root ... can we already start posting about it?

Marcia said...

I rather cheated, since I began Sahara a week ago and then happened to stumble across this site and KAL. I still want to join in, though. Besides, as I'm a newbie (and only started my knitting blog this week), I'm sure I could use the extra time!
