what i
Just a quick post - I received my order from Elann today. I think the name of this color is Aegean Sea, and it is most definitely a very vivid torquoise! I started swatching the TLC Cotton Plus and I am getting 20 st x 26 rows on US size 8 needles. So, I'm dead on for the stitch gauge, but 2 rows short on row gauge. I'm going to swatch the Esprit yarn from Elann, and wash both before I decide which to use. I'll post an update and pictures of both in a couple of days!
Edited to add: I just noticed the gauge specs on the Esprit ball band show 25 sts and 40 rows to 4" on US size 7s / 4.5 mm. I knew the stitch gauge was a little off, but the row gauge is way off. I'm still going to swatch with this. I'll check the pattern too and see how big of a deal this would be. I'll post what I figure out.

As a beginning knitter, joining my first KAL, what's the proper way to swatch on circular needles? Thanks for any insight!
Love the turquoise color Esprit!!!
I swatch on circular needles the same way I would on straight needles. Cast on however many stitches you want (I usually do between 20-30) and knit the row, turn and purl the next row. Don't join the stitches like you would if you were knitting a tube. I also knit a few rows of garter stitch at the beginning and end, and the first and last 3-4 stitches of each row are seed stitch to keep the edges from curling. Feel free to email me if you need more help! plkrout AT yahoo DOT com
actually, some people knit a different gauge circularly than straight, so i check my gauge after a few inches of circular knitting, too.
penny: row gauge will be *very* important for the band at the shoulders, but in this case, tighter will work in your favor. sounds like this might be a great substitute!
I'm anxious to hear how you like this yarn. Their color range is fabulous, and it sounds like it has the elasticity necessary for not only this knit, buy Audrey as will - another Calmer pattern, similar to Tempting but with long sleeves
Wow - the color selection with this yarn is really wonderful. It would be so hard to choose! I'll definitely have to keep this yarn in mind from now on! I'll be anxious to know if it comes close to gauge! What is the row gauge for this sweater, by the way? I'm assuming you're finding it by the recommended yarn gauge, because i don't see it on the pattern itself . . .
