SWC Neckline - any suggestions?

Well, I'm about to pick up stitches for the Somewhat Cowl neckline, and am just a little nervous about it. Any little tips, hints or tricks for me? I'd sure appreciate the input! Don't know why I'm feeling reluctant at this point - I've picked up and knit stitches before, and even done so successfully and without a twist to the stitches...I think I'm getting a bout of math phobia or something -

edited to add that I think I'm hesitant because the neck edges are really rolling right now. I think I'll block the thing first and then set to picking up stitches and completing it. Thankfully we still have sweater weather up here - I'll be able to wear it at least a few times before it gets warm!

Hi,
From what I read from Knitting from the Top by Barbara Walker, it recommends to pick up 2 sts for every 3 rows vertically. For horizontally, just pick up every sts. Does that make sense?

Hope that helps.
