Red Carpet possible substitution

Now that I'm getting ready to start Fifi, I'm thinking about buying the yarn for Red Carpet as well. I'm just full of knitterly confidence tonight...LOL. I finally found Playful Weekend online and it's so expensive. I checked Annie's site to see if she was selling it yet, but it's not there, and even at her price, I'm not sure if I can do $20 a skein right now.
I'm wondering if you guys think that Rowan's Bamboo Tape would work as a good substitute. Otherwise, i guess I'll just spend the money for either the Playful weekend, or Artyarns Silk Ribbon or Regal Silk.
I'm also wondering how many, if any, are planning to make the dress as opposed to just the corset top. I'm going to make the corset top first and then if I like it and the fit, I'll go back and also do the dress.

Goodnight all.

I started Fifi yesterday, but am also planning to make the RCC once I finish it. I was also thinking I would make the corset length.

I haven't worked with that particular yarn, but it seems like a tape type yarn would work. I'm planning to use Tess Designer Yarns ribbon but haven't swatched it yet.

I did a guage swatch the other night and I got my guage for the RCC with Louisa Harding Sari Ribbon I think its going to be really pretty and work out great. Its not to expensive. Hope this helps. Right now I am working on Fifi and hope to be done by the end of the week.

A tape yarn will probably work out really well--especially since the RCC is a drapey knit. I'm hoping to use Louisa Harding's Kimono Ribbon for it.

I'm planning on making the tea length dress. I bought Fettucia from School Products online, which is a 100% silk yarn. It's a little bit thinner than I expected though. I swatched it last night, and if I knit it at gauge, it'll be rather see through. I'm still planning on using it though, just adjusting it a little bit.

Also, has any body figured out my sizing question earlier yet? I'm still at a loss as to why there's positive ease so I'm planning on making it smaller so there will be negative ease. Guess we'll see how that turns out.

First of all--if knitting corset length --I would think any drapey yarn that knits to gauge would work. I was considering Berroco Bonsai which is also a bamboo tape. I ended up purchasing Noro Hana Silk which is a 100% silk tape. I haven't gotten it yet and this is the first time I've bought a yarn online that I've never even seen before. Apparently it has the "crunch" associated with silk but drapes beautifully, so I'm thinking it will be okay. If not, then I'll use it for something else and go with the Bonsai.

As far as sizing goes--This pattern is similar to Annie's Silk Corset pullover. I had emailed Annie some time ago about that one because I felt it should have negative ease as well. I measure 34 and the Small size in that pattern measures around 34 or 35. Annie told me that the smaller size which measures 31 should work because the silk was stretchy and the pattern is ribbed which gives it some stretch.

I can't remember if the RCC is ribbed around the body but the front panel looks like it would have some give. If you don't have broad shoulders then I would cast on the smaller size and see how that fits around the shoulders. Because this design doesn't have raglan increases like Fifi, I would add some increases evenly around the body just below the armhole if you think you need them. You can try it on as you go. You can also judge if you need increases after you start the sweater and determine how stretchy the fabric is.

Thanks for all the great responses. I hadn't even thought of using Noro's Hanna silk and I forgot all about Louisa Harding's Kimono Ribbon, I have several skeins of her Kimono in the pink color and I LOVE it. the ribbon is also a beautiful yarn and I think it's a great idea. Off to spend too much money again...LOL On second thought, i'll wait, my LYS has a great 4th of July sale - 15% off of one order and that way I can feel the two yarns and see which I like better. :)
