Fifi Question for Kristeen

When I said I had separated the sleeves on Fifi, I really meant I had put it on waste yarn - so...I have the same question as Michelle posted earlier. I still am not entirely sure I understand the answer. Is the "first marker" that's referred to the same as the "beginning of the round marker"?

From my reading of the pattern, it seems NOT to be the same, because it says "keeping beginning marker in place" K to the first marker. Is the beginning marker (round marker) not counted as the first marker? I think that's what we need to clarify here.

Thanks!! I'd love to start working on this again!

It's confusing because the pattern says to knit to the first marker. I used the start of row marker as the first marker and disregarded that part of the instructions because they didn't make sense. Bascially, the stitches betweent your first (start of row) marker and 2nd marker are the right sleeve stitches so you put them on waste yarn. Then you figure out how many stitches you need to cast on to keep the pattern going and you do that. Continue knitting (in pattern across the front then put the stitches between the 3rd and 4th markers on waste yarn for the left sleeve and cast on the same number of stitches. Continue knitting in pattern across the back and you are done with that row. I moved my markers to the middle of the cast on stitches so they would be true side seam markers. You may have to do some adjusting by increasing or decreasing stitches under the arm when you get to the part where the pattern changes.

In order to keep the pattern, I ended up casting on 7 stitches under each arm. Otherwise it would have been 2 and that just didn't seem to be enough.

I hope this helps.

Thank you *SO* much - that makes perfect sense. I will do the same thing and cast on 7 stitches, especially since sometimes things fit me in the bust but not the arms (gotta quit that Bowflex I guess!) LOL

Make sure that casting on 7 stitches under the arm works for your size. It's different for each size. You have to check the stitches immediately before the first marker and after the second marker to figure out how many you need to add to keep the P1, K4 pattern.
