Fifi progress

Here is my Fifi so far. Sorry about the photo quality!

It is knit in Calmer --color is Refresh--on size 7 Knitpicks Options needles. My gauge is coming out small--between 6 -7 stitches per inch as opposed to the 5 spi called for in the pattern and which I swatched. I ended up knitting the size Small as directed in the pattern. It seems to fit well but I wish the neckline were wider. If I make this pattern again, I will begin with the 140 cast on. I cannot believe how stretchy this yarn is! The body seems to measure about 30 inches around and it stretches a lot when putting it on! I will keep the sleeves short but I think I will have to do another inch or so on them as they are too short in the current condition.

bonjour kozy & all..
i have an idea that might solve your "neck" problem....see if you think this might work...
calmer, being it's stretchy little self also has some latitude length wise...so what if you backtracked a bit to the size xs (don't rip out until later)...find the spot where the xs should end..pin sleeves together securely at this point and then try on...i have a feeling the neck will come down a bit and also widen...and the sleeves will fit snugly..but when we add the sts under the arm it might be perfect...
so then you can rip back to size xs and go from there--
maybe this will work! xo, kristeen

I totally agree with Kristeen's suggestion. Making the armhole shallower should tug the neckline open a bit more (this worked well for the "Wicked" sweaters I'd made). If you feel that the bust would be too snug with fewer stitches on it, you can always cast on a few more stitches (enough to keep it in pattern) at the underarm after separating the sleeves.
