Crossover pattern question

I'm an inch into the crossover collar and only JUST noticed that the 124 stitches that I cast on for the 32-35' size are NOT divisible by the 8-stitch pattern repeat. So, the first cable and last cable are not mirroring each other. Has anyone considered any adjustments for this or are all of you who are knitting the 32-35' size ignoring this inconsistency in the pattern? Trying to decide how much this bothers me. . .

I had the same problem with the size i'm knitting (third in the brackets) but as it is at the back I have just left it.

I noticed that, too. I left it, but my yarn choice does not show off the crossovers very well, so no one would see it. I might knit another sweater with a different yarn.

I noticed that lasst night. Grrr...I'm knitting the smallest size, so I just switched to 120 stitiches instead of the 124 that the pattern calls for. It's ribbing, so I figure that missing 4 stitiches won't matter much.

I, too, opted to just let it go. Of course, it took me a good five minutes of "Arg-h-h-h, 8 doesn't divide into 124!" before it even dawned on me that it was only the twist levels and not the number of cables themselves that were going to be "off." Then I promptly knit 8 rounds of a moebius and frogged everything. Arg-h-h-h indeed.

i also just let it go, i'm using the artyarns and because it is verigated, you don't see the lack of mirroring that much at all. i decided too, that since it is the back, i'm okay with it. i'll just encourage people not to stare at my back when i wear it!

I noticed this too, but just kept with the pattern. Interestingly enough - by keeping with the pattern, my crossovers are correct all the way around. I'm doing the third in the brackets. When it says repeat * to * - I just knit the remainding 4 stitches left and then started the next round as the pattern called for.

When I said "knit" the remainding 4 stitches - I meant, knit or purl depending on what the pattern called for.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments! I'm thinking that I'll just go ahead with it "as is," since a)it's in the back and b)the number of cables are correct. I am curious, though, about what you've pointed out, Susan, which is that the pattern does imply continuing to the end of the pattern repeat (*), which would create an offset starting point for each round! You haven't had any problems with doing it this way?

Check out Sknitty.typepad.com's posting about it; she emailed Zephyr and they replied, stating it's intentionally that way.

Thanks, Mary, for the info!

I had the same thing...took me a few rounds to figure it out, since it was in the back, I too decided to let it go....

something about how that was written just didn't make sense to me anyway--it seemed to be decreasing every repeat, which seemed disastrous--so i opted for basic ribbing (cop-out, i know), and it looks really nice. i'm doing a worsted weight from my stash in the second size in brackets.
