Newsletter and Podcast Updates

Wow! Thank you all so much for all the positive feedback and emails regarding both the SKC Newsletter and Podcast. We've had lots of volunteers but we need more (see below) and I wanted to keep you all up-to-date on where we are with both the newsletter and the podcast.

First, Lisa has volunteered to be the Executive Editor of the SKC newsletter. Yay! Doesn't that sound official??? We've had several other people volunteer to help out with the newsletter as well, which is fantastic. The more help for Lisa the better! Also, be sure to note the new "newsletter" button on the sidebar and sign up to receive the newsletter if you haven't done so already.

Second, here's where we are with the podcast -- we have several people who have expressed an interest in helping out with the podcast which is wonderful! So. I've made an "executive decision" and have decided to make the Sexy Knitters Club podcast a joint effort incorporating all of the wonderful ideas of those interested in contributing. In other words, because there are so many wonderful ideas for the podcast, and because podfading is so common when just one person is strapped with all the responsibilities of producing a podcast, I thought it might be a good idea to have several people (preferably half a dozen or more) each contribute a 5 - 10 minute segment to include as a part of the show. This means that the workload is split up between more people and it keeps the show fresh and interesting. Cool, huh?

So here's what we need:

First, we need input from our members regarding what kind of "segments" or "topics of discussion" you would like to hear on the SKC podcast. Please post your ideas and/or suggestions as comments to this post. For those of you who agree with an idea or suggestion already mentioned, please leave a comment letting us know that you agree so that we know which ideas and suggestions are most popular.

Second, I mentioned that we have had "several people" interested in helping but we need more if this is going to really work. So if you feel that you could contribute a 5 - 10 minute segment once a month, we need you! And better to have too many contributors as opposed to not enough, so don't be shy about volunteering. Preferably, these segments would be submitted as an audio file, but if you're unsure about how to submit an audio file, written submissions could be read by another contributor. Can y'all see why we needs LOTS of contributors now?

Third, in addition to the segment contributors, we will need someone to help put the separate segments into one file to upload to the server. This isn't as hard as it sounds, and can be done with various "free" programs available on the Internet. So if you're a little bit on the techie side, we need you too!

Finally, we need people to help us contact knitting royalty for interviews. Mostly, we're interested in interviewing some of the designers (hello Zephyr Girls) who have had winning patterns for some of our previous knit alongs, and/or authors who have included some "sexy" knits in their books, etc.

For any of you who are interested in helping with the podcast in any capacity, please email me. The Sexy Knitters Club podcast can only happen if we have the people to make it happen, so c'mon and get involved!

Since we are the SKC I think it would be good to have a series of casts/featurettes on ways to make a pattern more shaply. this would including not only simple waistline decreases but also short rows, bust darts, back shaping and perhaps changing a neckline to better flatter your body.

Congrats. You scared me a wee bit when I saw that "Lisa" had volunteered to be the Editor in Chief....I thought that my meds were in overdrive. I will volunteer to assist Lisa in what ever way she needs, so pass my info her direction!

lol... seems like there's always a Lisa or two in the crowd. I'd love any help you can offer. Just give me an email at lizajane73 (at) excite (dot) com.

Chppie - I love that idea! Are you volunteering? ;)

I agree with Chppie.

I think it might be nice to have a segment where someone helps beginners with a pattern reading, technique etc. Maybe people can write in with questions and once a week (or whatever works depending on the amount of questions) someone answers the questions in plain easy to understand English since patterns and abbreviations can sometimes be a little confusing when you start knitting more more complicated projects.

I also agree with chppie and would add that I would love to learn more about how stitch patterns can be used to do the shapeing work for you, like ribbing, cables and the like. And if we are trying to add more sex appeal, topics like "what makes you feel sexy?" or how does the way you dress help you feel sexy?" would seem appropriate. KC
