Nomination: Fifi

I just spotted this on Ravelry and fell in love with it. Pattern is Fifi, by French Girl. It costs $6.50ish and tons of online shops carry it.

IMO, its standard picture doesn't look all that special:

But check out the versions other people have made: one two. So pretty!

It looks to be a simple top-down raglan construction, but with lots of cables and junk to make it interesting, so a good balance between easy and hard. What do you think?

I love it, especially the pictures taken by the other bloggers you have linked to. Boy, so many nice choices being nominated this time! I'm bookmarking this one too.

OK, I've been tempted to comment on several nominations, but this one is my favorite, so far.

You're right - the other versions you linked to are fantastic! I wouldn't have guessed from the original picture. Thanks for bringing this one up - I might have to just knit it for myself anyway :)

I love this as well. I looked at the French Girl website and found that my LYS carries the patterns so I may have to go get one! I like this one because I can wear it for work and play! I noticed that there are corrections to the pattern on the website--so anyone who plans on making this would want to check that out as well!

It's very pretty but I think it's a little beyond my knitting abilities. Unless of course I just dive right in and see where it ends up. -=giggle=-

I love this! The other pictures do the pattern justice better, I agree.

I couldn't stand it! I went to my LYS and bought this pattern and 3 skeins of Calmer in Refresh. Interesting --the pattern says that Calmer is in 87 yard skeins and calls for twice the number of skeins that you will need. Perhaps it is published in a different country? I don't know. Calmer comes in 175 yard skeins so it only took 3 --and probably less for my size!

Hehehe, I bought the pattern too, right before I posted the nomination - I'm going to make it whether or not it gets chosen for the KAL.

kozy kitty, I'm guessing that the yardage is a misprint, but the number of skeins is not - I don't think it could be made with 3 skeins. I just finished a (small-sized) tube top with 3 skeins of Calmer, and used every last bit of it - so 5 or 6 skeins for this sounds about right, especially with all the yarn-eating cables. The Ravelry entry for the red one I linked above said it used 5 skeins.

I don't have the pattern yet, though (I ordered it online).

I think that the yardage on the pattern goes with the skeins, but that the skeins were smaller. I read on a yarn store website (Purl Soho) that this pattern takes 435 yards in the small size which would be 3 skeins (175 yards/ 50 gm.). The pattern says that the skeins have 87 yards and calls for 5 skeins. That comes to 435 yards. I think it sounds about right as most tank type patterns in this size take 400 - 600 yards. I think that the Calmer stretches when it's knit. Did you find that it did that?

Calmer is really stretchy, yeah. It's a strange yarn. Really soft and nice to knit with, though.

Just googled the pattern, and Jimmy Beans Wool sells kits for it that include 5-7 balls of Calmer (depending on size), FWIW. Maybe someone who made it can clear up the yarn requirements? I still think 5+ sounds plausible because of the way cables and complex stitch patterns eat up yarn.

I just emailed someone at French Girl to get a clarification. I'll post their answer. I have an extra ball of Calmer so that gives me 700 yards. Rusted Root took far less than that so I think I will be okay. Hopefully they will post the clarification along with their pattern corrections which are on the French Girl website.
I really love this design!

I love the Fifi, but you know, if you buy it from Soho you are charged $7.50 for SHIPPING! I am willing to pay for the pattern but why can it not be downloaded somewhere?

I think this is sooo cute...its definitely going to be a future project!!

Check the French Girl website. You can find it with a google search. They list the retailers who carry it. I found it at my LYS and purchased it there.

Anonymous, I ordered it here and got free shipping, FWIW.

Any news on the yardage issue, kozy kitty?

Thank you, thank you! Fifi is on the way. They even take Paypal! By the way, I am a new member, Trilby. Hello!

I already ordered the pattern and I vote for Fifi! Love the baby cables and top-down raglan.

Yep, that's gorgeous. I'd knit it in a heartbeat!

You are SO RIGHT! I would have never picked this pattern just looking at the original picture but seeing what others have done really shows off the cabling and detailing better! I would totally wear this sexy little knit to the office. It would make a great transitional from summer to fall wardrobe.
