Off Topic- NYC Knitting

Hey.. I know this is very off topic, but I was wondering...

I am going to be in NYC next week and was wondering if anyone can recommend a really good yarn shop. I am planning on going to Habu, but thought I'd like to go one more place. I'd like to go to a shop that either has a lot of sock yarn or has a lot of unique/handspun/hand-dyed yarns. Anyone in NY have suggestions?

Thanks!
Dana

If you are going to Habu, then School Products is down the block. It's located at 1201 Broadway, which is between 28th and 29th sts. They have a ton of hand dyed cashmere and other luxury fibers for great prices. They also have cones of yarn that are remnants from designer sweaters. I really like that store and I always find something fun and VERY unique. They have a website: www.schoolproducts.com

I don't know of any shops, but I can offer you this...

LOCKING YOUR CAR DOORS ISN'T ENOUGH. If you're driving, pay to park.

Ask my broken drivers side lock and my stolen make up and CDs. :( Terrible place, I'm never going back.

Illanna- thanks! I will be sure to go there! It sounds great.

Pam- no worries- we plan to walk/subway/cab everywhere there. When we have been in large cities before, we have always found that public transit is easier and gets you to better places than driving does. I'm sorry you had such a horrible time of it. Hopefully we'll manage to avoid anything that bad!

School Products is good; they have Koigu and Trekking XXL, but I didn't see any other sock yarn. If you're in Soho, check out the Point (thepointnyc.com); they have Lorna's Laces, Claudia's HP, Artyarns and Regia in their sock yarns. It's very close to Purl Soho which has Koigu too. Knitty City (upper west side) has lots of Cherry Tree Hill. If you're near the World Trade Ctr. and you like School Products, I'd recommend Seaport Yarns.

Have a good trip! Yarn is not taxable here! :)
