Another Fifi

I have finally completed my Fifi. I will say that I love the way it turned out! I did have a ton of problems. Some were with pattern ambiguity, another with the short rows not working out right, and then some of my own mistakes. So I ripped quite a few times but stuck with it because I really love the design.

I know many of you have asked about short rows and I will put in my two cents. I have done them before with much success. No problems. I did them on Fifi and it didn't work. They looked fine until I stretched the garment out and when stretched out the short rows created huge holes. It was very unsightly so I had to rip them out. I could have benefited from them however. I didn't do more increases because I was counting on the short rows to help me out in the bust area....they didn't work so the garment pulls tightly across my chest. My guess is that the stretchiness of the yarn and the gauge makes short rows almost impossible to look good on this pattern. It could be I did them wrong - but like I said, I have done them before just fine.

I would be curious to know what the designers input would be on this issue because I don't think I am alone on it. Other than that though, I really love this top and think the design is fantastic!

I love your neckline and am wondering what size you made. Also, how much negative ease do you have?
It looks lovely on you!

I did the short rows and they had a gap, but I just wove yarn into the space and you can barely tell. I will be posting my finished Fifi on Friday.

Wow, that's gorgeous!

You look about the same size as me, so I'm also curious what size you made.

I cast on 120 stitches and knit to the XS size. As far as negative ease? There is a ton. It stretches like crazy but it is supposed to. I loose many inches in length once I put it on (and knit many extra inches to account for that).

Crispy...your idea is a great one for short rows. I thought about that but was worried about the woven yarn coming undone at some point. I am anxious to see how yours came out!

It looks fantastic on you! Is that the "blush" color of Calmer?

It's beautiful on you. I had the same problems with the short rows. It still looks like it fits great on you even without the additional increases or short row. Great job!

How did you get the lower neckline? It looks like the others are much higher. I like yours.

Janet - I am not sure why mine turned out lower. I cast on 120 stitches and followed the XS pattern so I am not sure why mine turned out differently. I have pretty narrow shoulders so maybe that is why it looks different - but I really not sure of the reason. Sorry I can't help more!
