Sahara Completed

As promised - here's my pic of Sahara completed. This was the second SKC KAL that I participated in and the first time that I did both SKC projects. I'm really looking forward to the next one as well. More details on my blog.

Sahara is Completed

After redoing the hem and sleeves - going from sleevless, to short-sleeves, Sahara is completed. Pics have been taken and will be uploaded soon. It was great having two patterns on this FO that were fabolous and fun to make.

I finished this a week ago, but have not had time to post info about the project. The fit and look of the shirt is growing on me. My friends say this sweater looks hot. I am just not used to the wide shoulders.

Another Finished Sahara

First of all, I have to say that I am completely impressed with all the beautiful Sahara's that are popping up. It was certainly motivating me to finish mine! So it is finally finished. I had to put it down a few times to get mother's day gifts completed but it is finished now. I am really happy with how it turned out. I think I will take some other bloggers advice and wet block it because the bust area is just a tad tight.....I would like it a bit looser. I am just nervous about wet blocking the TT yarn. But I will. So this pic is pre-wet blocking.

I think this was a great pattern. It kept my interest, which is very important to me, and I think the trim is so pretty (even though it is a pain to knit). I will most likely knit another another one next summer!

Me Again...

I posted a picture of my finished sahara the other day on the back of a chair. Here it is on. I was going to make the medium but realized the back was not big enough across the shoulders so I went up to the large. I'm so glad I did as it fits perfectly. I just wish the sleeves laid a little flatter.

Ahh it is done! I am REALLY happy with this knit! It will get a lot of wear this summer! I wore it out tonight and yarn is soo soft! I got 2 compliments on it!

Yarn: Goshen by Valley Yarns from WEBS in purple haze. I really enjoyed using this yarn! I will use it again for sure! I used just under 7 skeins.

It would have been done a week sooner if I didn't keep putting off doing the neckline. But really it was so easy! I had it done on Sunday, riding in the car to my Grandma's and back!

It is the best fitting knit I've done so far! I guess I have been making everything to big! I would definitely make this pattern again. Maybe a long sleeved version for fall winter?

Finished Sahara

Hi! I finished my Sahara last week. I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleeced in Lilac Haze. I followed the pattern as is. I did use a size 5 needle for the lace hem. I wore it to my grandmothers birthday party last Saturday and everyone loved it. I can't believe how well it fit. I think I'm going to make a long sleeved one for the winter.

I can't wait to see what the next KAL is.

Totally happy with this pattern, would totally do it again (considering I restarted it THREE times.....)
It really makes my chest pop out, you would never figure that was just a B cup sitting there. I am thinking of actually making it the short sleeve version, so we'll see if I accomplish that or not.
I also think I would like to try this in a more silky cotton yarn to see if it drapes any instead of being so clingy with what I chose.
I used Cascade 220 and size 6 needles throughout. Made no modifications but think I am definately going to start doing crunches on a daily basis.



This was my first KAL and actually, the first sweater I made for ME. So all in all it was pretty fun and challenging. Especially when I magically lost a skein of the yarn and had to wait a week to replace it. I'm sure I'll find it tomorrow though.......*sigh*

Pattern: Sahara from StitchDiva by Wendy Bernard of Knit and Tonic.
Yarn: Ella Rae Shibu, Colorway 07.
Needles: Size 5 US for body, Size 4 US for ribbing. KnitPicks Options.
Modifications: Lengthened sleeves by working the long sleeve pattern decreases (5 total decreases, +2 rounds) before ribbing.
Neckline p3togtbl was switched for a p3tog.
Modifications for row gauge being off pattern.

Pink Sahara WIP

Information:
Started: 28 April 2007
Size: Large (I think it might be so fitted that I'd be wise to wear a bit of a girdle or shaper underneath just so the relaxed belly doesn't ruin the line!)
Yarn: Ella Rae Shibu in #07 (90/10 silk/rayon) - Approximately 8 balls so far (yarn was reclaimed from a very bad version of a Knitty tank). Two more balls on order for the neck and hem details (that way with the mismatch of the dyelot, it will seem like a design element... That's my theory).
Needles: Knitpicks Options for the body in size 5US, some random plastic sleeve needle from Mom's stash for the sleeves
Modifications:
Adding some length to the sleeve to make it hit right above the elbow when completed.
Gauge issues (stitch gauge was on, row gauge was off)
Sleeves are going to be more fitted than shown in model.

It's turning out to be a lot of pink... And I'm not a pink person. I think something happened to me, like trauma.

Overall, I'm very happy with the knit, and the fit from the last body try-on, and the sleeves seem like they're going to be precisely what I want - well fitted, and longer than the short sleeve section of the pattern, which is so not designed for any woman with meaty upper arms.

The Blue Moon Bling Sahara swatched and ready

I am going to do the sleeveless version of the Sahara sweater. I am knitting it in Cotton Patine; and instead of beaded yarn, I am using Blue Moon Lupe or Bling as I call it. If you want more info go to my blog.

Almost done!

Well no picts new picts yet, but one sleeve is finished and I'm off to finish the 2nd one tonight. Then just the lace neckline! So hopefully I'll be done VERY soon!

Sahara Body done!

YIPPEE!! I finished the body of my Sahara. I am REALLY happy with the fit so far!(My knits tend to come out too big!) I took me forever to finish the trim on the body because I sliced my index finger last night (left hand but still makes it a lot slower) pretty bad. Typing is much slower too! Anyway I went upstairs to get my size 6, 16" needles and guess what...I don't have any! AHHH so I can't start my sleeves! I don't want to do anymore of the lace right now with my finger today. I'm going to sit anf knit tomorrow so I'm praying my LYS has that size addis, or I might cry! OK I won't cry but I need to get a hold of one soon! So while I really want to start Rusted root, I'm thinking I should finish up another almost done project while I wait on my needles..( I may not be able to resist though!)

OH I'm using Valley Yarns Goshen in Purple haze on size 6 and 4s...and am really happy with it so far! Nice

The Beginning of Sahara Short Sleeves

This is the beginning of the first of two Sahara sweaters that I plan to make. This one is the short sleeve version in Rowan’s All Season Cotton in the color Misty. I am using size US 8 and 6 needles instead of the recommended US 6 and 4.

I have to admit that I did have some problems at first with the provisional cast on, but I think I did ok. I decided to omit some of the decreases at the waist in the pattern to obtain a better fit for me. So far, so good! My goal is to hopefully finish this sweater before my birthday in May. At the rate I’m going, I think that is a realistic goal.

Restarted Sahara

Well I got to the bottom of Sahara and got totally confused by the split hem line. I decided to try the thing on and it was just all wrong with the chenielle yarn I had selected. Instead of trying to rework it with that particular yarn, I decided to hit it with some Cascade. Its been slow going as life has been catching up with me, but plugging away at it all day today. Just about to join and work in the round so after that it will go a lot better. Me and Purling aren't on a best friend basis, though I understand the need for it in my knitting life.
Hopefully by the end of this week I will have my new shirt and pics to post! If anyone else had trouble with that split hem thing, what I am curious about is when it says to wrap stitches, am I wrapping those two and three at once and counting them as two and three or am I counting those as one stitch for that four and five I'm supposed to be counting???

Tea Rose Sahara

I started my Sahara about a week ago and I'm using Cotton Fleece in Tea Rose. I'm further along than this, now. I'm just about to start the bottom hem shaping. So far, I really like the pattern and it seems to fit well.



I've seen a few finished Saharas on various blogs, and they seem to turn out really well, so I'm really excited to finish mine. It shouldn't be too long until I'm wearing it!

Sahara progress

Hi! I started my Sahara on the 1st and have done more than I expected since then. I'm using Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Lilac. I had to start over, the medium was the right bust size but the back was not wide enough so I started over a size bigger. I also used the provisional cast on from Knit and Tonic. It was very simple to do. This is my first sweater so the pattern has confused me a couple of times but I have managed to figure it out without too much ripping. I can't wait to finish it.

Started Sahara

My yarn and new Options needles arrived the other day. I was so excited to open that package!! I can't imagine how I got along without these needles.

I have now started Sahara. Following the link that someone else posted here, I used the provisional cast-on from Knit and Tonic. What a dream! Not much progress so far because I'm still finishing the Simple Knitted Bodice that I started as a filler project after the Wicked KAL. I'm using Knit Picks Shine Worsted in Crocus. It feels incredibly soft and here is what I have so far:

I've cast on!

Well I used Wendy's cast on method and knit up a few rows. Liking the yarn alot so far! I had to put it down as I'm trying to finish up another project before I leave on vacation Sat. Sahara is my vacation knitting anyway. I just wanted to get it started up before I leave!
