Hello Sexy Knitters!

Just a little announcement here for those of you who have not made the move over to The Official Sexy Knitter's Club on Ravelry yet, and those of you checking us out for perhaps the first time. Nominations are officially open but will be closing shortly (June 13, 2009 - June 26, 2009) to decide on projects for our third KAL this year. This quarter's theme is "Designers" and is our second time choosing a designer as our KAL theme. Get your nominations in quick - voting starts June 28th & lasts until June 30th, 2009.

We'll continue to use this blog for announcements, but will no longer be posting here. Come join us on Ravelry if you haven't already and put in your nomination for the next KAL. Look forward to meeting you there!

2nd Quarter KAL 2009 - Karma Tank/Karma Skirt, Spring Vines & Juno Regina Stole

Our second KAL of 2009 has begun! Your votes are in and this time we will be running a more "traditional" KAL in which a specific pattern has been chosen for the whole group to knit. As an added twist, we have also given you the choice of knitting either a small project or a larger project. Or both if you're that speedy! In the small project category, our winner and choice for the second quarter KAL is Juno Regina - a lace stole/scarf from Knitty, Fall 2007 (on Ravelry here). In the large project category, your choice was a tie between the Karma Tank/Karma Skirt by Wendy Bernard featured in Custom Knits, or Spring Vines by Dao Nguyen.

A few guidelines:

Official KAL dates: April 4, 2009 - June 30, 2009.
To participate, you may knit any of the agreed upon patterns in either the large or small categories, or both.
Don't forget to tag your knits in Ravelry with SKC2009Q2 so people can easily find your related projects.
Nominations for the third quarter KAL will begin June 15th.

2009 First Quarter KAL - Cables & Twisted Stitches

Our first KAL of 2009 has begun! Your votes are in and Cables & Twisted Stitches (i.e., any stitch sequence where stitches change position while they are being knit) is the technique of choice for 2009's 1st Quarter KAL.

A few guidelines:

Official KAL dates: January 1, 2009 - March 17, 2009*
A qualifying pattern will include at least 25% cables or twisted stitches
You may knit any pattern that you feel is sexy and contains the technique we've elected to focus on this this quarter

Other announcements: Please welcome RobinM of Yarn Crawl as the newest member of our group leaders over on Ravelry. I'm (knittymuggins) taking a little time off from group responsibilities and Robin has kindly offered to step in and help rchrispy with the fun job of moderating our group and helping everything run smoothly. 2009 1st Quarter KAL Voting Has Begun!

The voting has begun for our first KAL of 2009! For the 2009 1st Quarter KAL, we will be running a technique based KAL. You will vote on which technique you are most interested in, out of the following categories:

Garter Stitch
Stockinette or Reverse Stockinette Stitches
Textured Knit & Purl Combos e.g., Seed Stitch, Ribbing, Textured Rib
Cables & Twisted Stitches i.e., any stitch sequence where stitches change position while they are being knit
Lace i.e., decrease and open increase combos
Colorwork (2 or more colors, fair isle, stranded, intarsia, mosaic or slip stitch color work; stripes do not count) e.g., Fair-Isle, Mosaic, or Slip Stitch patterns
Traveling (decrease and increase stitch combos)
Unusual (Bobbles & Leaves & Entrelac - 3-D shapes on a knitted surface & anything else that doesn’t fit traditional categories)
Beaded (any item that is attached to the surface)

A few guidelines:

Voting will run from December 27, 2008 - December 31, 2008

We're Moving!!!

Hi All -- To keep all of you up-to-date.....

I have asked rchrispy to join the SKC administrators and she has graciously agreed to come on board :-) Between KnittyMuggins, rchrispy, and I, here is where we've decided to go with the SKC....

First, in case any of you aren't aware, there has been quite a bit of discussion on Ravelry regarding moving the Sexy Knitters Club to Ravelry. After some discussion, the other admins and I feel that moving the SKC to Ravelry is a good idea admin-wise as well as for our members as it will eliminate the need for members to request posting privileges before each new knit along. For those of you who are not yet Ravelry members, don't panic! The transition from the current SKC site to Ravelry will be slow enough to allow all those SKC members who aren't yet on Ravelry a chance to get in/on/withit! I'm not sure what the approximate wait time is for a Ravelry invite but I hear it's much shorter than it was several months ago -- I'm guessing no more than a couple of weeks.

Second, in order to avoid aministrative chaos, we have decided to form an Official Sexy Knitters Club Ravelry group. This group will be the new home of the original Sexy Knitters Club where things will stay pretty much the same as they are now with the exception of a few changes regarding the way future knit alongs are conducted. We will keep everybody up to date regarding these changes on the Official SKC board so be sure to check there often.

Third, we would like to encourage all current SKCers who haven't yet signed up for Ravelry to do so now so that you can receive your invite before the next knit along begins -- with all the wonderful KAL suggestions, the next KAL promises to be a doozie!

Finally, rchrispy, KnittyMuggins, and I would like to thank each and every one of you who have contributed to the conversation over on Ravelry over the past several weeks. It's members like you who keep the SKC strong and very much alive :-)

My yarn for Labyrinth arrived in the mail yesterday. I'm going with Handmaiden Double Sea Silk in Topaz with Ivory for the trim. I was undecided as to whether or not to purchase the Tilli Tomas Disco Lights in natural for the trim. I decided to go with the Handmaiden and I may decide to add clear beads when I get to that point. The yarn is just so incredibly beautiful. Photographs just don't do it justice! I am finishing up another project first then I hope to get started!

Saying hi and checking in with Aleita Shell

Hi. I've just joined the SKC and it's good to be in time for this summer's knitalong. I've decided to knit the Aleita Shell. I liked it the minute I got the Spring Interweave Knits magazine through my letterbox but waited until I finished the project I was working on (Sally Melville empire waist dress) before embarking on this one. I'm also delighted to be doing some stash-busting at the same time, as the yarn has been sitting in my cupboard for a while now and, having been pretty extravagant recently, I felt the need to reduce the size of said stash.

The yarn in question is Rowan DK Handknit cotton, shade 294 and is a beautiful shade of hyacinth blue. (And it's been in my stash for so long I wouldn't be surprised if Rowan no longer make that shade!) It's a matte finish and so far looks promising. I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops. As you may be able to see from the (not very good) photo, I've done the welt and about 2 rows of the stocking stitch body, so there's some way to go.

Let's KNIT Already!

Well, I for one am happy with the selections we made! I'm so happy, I already started! I knew I was going to make Labyrinth if it won or not, so I bought some Ella Rae Bamboo Silk when WEBS had their awesome sale on it last month.

The stitch gauge is right on, but the row gauge is a little off. But, row gauge is easy to work around, so it doesn't matter. This is my progress as of this morning:

Why Not?

Okay, so here's what I think we should do..... I've looked over the poll numbers and instead of doing a run-off between the top 5 or 10 patterns, I've decided to pull out all the stops and make this a FIVE way knit along! I mean, why not? By adding the 4th and 5th place winners, we can add an additional 42 knitters to the knit along for a total of 129 knitters!

As far as future knit alongs, we are looking at several different format changes -- we'll keep everybody posted.

For now, let's go ahead and get our supplies ready for this five-way KAL! Since we're running a bit behind, let's go ahead and officially declare this KAL started right now! I can't wait to see which patterns everyone is planning to knit and which yarns you'll be using!

ETA: The top five patterns are Labyrinth, Notorious, Aleita Shell, Printed Silk Cardigan, and Talia.

28/4/8 I used just under 300g of Sirdar Denim Tweed DK that was lurking in a box file!

I know it's not the poshest yarn but it goes in the machine and keeps it's shape for years and years without pilling!

Had enough of cleavage and midriff-baring fashion? This summer top shows off a bit of skin in the back. I have several nominations for the next KAL:

Then there is Titania. I fell in love with this pattern the minute I saw it. It is easy to understand and it is made out of Brown Sheep cotton fleece which is inexpensive, comes in a multitude of colors and is readily available. The pattern also comes in a very wide range of sizes ranging from XXS to 3X.

My last nomination is for the Dayflower Camisole which is a paid download pattern.

This one is made from Classic Elite Premier (which I happen to have in my stash) and could easily be made of cotton fleece or any other dk weight cotton.

The two tank/camisole patterns could be worn year round as layered pieces and Titania would easily be a 3 season piece. I love them all!

Knit Along Updates

Hi All! As we wrap up the Giselle/Bella Paquita knit along, I just have to say that these knits have left me speechless, which doesn't happen often. You sexy knitters have really outdone yourselves this time!

As always, please send me pics of (or links to) your finished Giselles and Bellas in order to be entered into the knit along drawing. Please title your emails "Giselle/Bella KAL for easier email sorting. We will be giving away another Hip Chicks Knit tee shirt as well as a skein of one of my newest favorite yarns called Tatamy Tweed DK by Kraemer. Have y'all heard of this yarn? It's a cotton/acrylic blend (45% cotton, 55% acrylic) that knits up into a lightweight fabric with beautiful drape; perfect for spring! I recently discovered this yarn and am in love but am willing to part with a skein of it to our next winner.

Now, on to our next knit along! We will take nominations from now until the third week of April and will vote shortly after that. You will need to request membership and posting privileges if you haven't already done so in order to nominate patterns, and remember that feedback (both positive and negative) helps determine which nominations stay and which are weeded out come voting time.

Giselle, ma belle...

Is it still March? Yep, just barely! I actually had this one finished a couple of weeks ago, and I've already worn it several times, but I only just got around to taking the pictures today.

I made it in size small (the first numbers in parentheses), using 8 skeins of Debbie Bliss Pure Silk in purple and 1 ball of Katia Gatsby in gold for the trim.

I am very happy with the fit and, despite the miles of stockinette hell, it was actually a pretty fun project. I particularly liked how the sleeve flares were shaped.

Keylimegirl's Bella Paquita Finished!

My Bella is done! And, I love it. It's probably my favorite thing I have ever knitted. Getting there, though, was kind of a process, and after I cast on I got so frustrated with charts and sizing that I may have accidentally knit 4 hats, a bag, an entire cardigan, and most of a Tubey while I was supposed to be making this. But, it's all done,and I'm in love. I didn't end up steeking it, as the silk/wool yarn drapes so nicely that I like the way it looks in the back with all the lace there, so all I did was tack it down in 5 places so that it would lie properly.

I finished Giselle last night just in the nick of time as I had hand surgery today!

Details:

Pattern: Giselle from Stitch Diva, cropped version, Size Small
Yarn: Handmaiden Double Sea Silk in Periwinkle--3 skeins
Handmaiden Sea Silk in Mahogany--1 skein (for crochet edging)
Ribbon: Hanna Silk Satin hand dyed in French Roast--3 yards
Needles: Addi turbo size 6, Crochet hook size E
Began Feb./ Finished March 27

I love this pattern but I'm disappointed that it didn't come in smaller sizes. The smallest is a 34 which is my actual bust measurement. This design needs to have negative ease. The back view shows that the sweater doesn't quite hug the body the way it should. In retrospect, I should have tightened it up when I put the crochet edging on. I was also a little rusty with my crochet skills. It's been years. There was a graph type thing with the stitch pattern which was somewhat unclear. I didn't get it quite right up the front and around the neck, but I figured it out for the rest! Overall, I'm pleased with the results and I'm sure I will wear it.

Yippee, I finally finished Bella Paquita yesterday! With all of the reknitting I did, I probably knit the whole thing twice.

I used Rowan Calmer, so my gauge was very different from the pattern and I had to customize everything. I also knitted the top so that the lace would start higher.

I have to say I was very intimidated by this pattern at first, because I had never worked with charts before. But I took Marnie's advice and created a "crib sheet" and it went fairly smoothly. I had some trouble with the sleeves, but after reading Mary_Me_A_Little's post, I got "Knitting Without Tears" from the library, and I'm very happy with how easily they came together. (After having frogged the first sleeve 3 times.) I also liked the sweater without the sleeves and may knit another sleeveless version some day. The steeks scared the snot out of me, but I took the plunge and am keeping my fingers crossed. I put them at the shoulder seams. I'm happy with the yarn and I love the color - Berroco Comfort #9761. It's a beautiful pattern, and I will be wearing this one a lot!

Getting Close

Sorry for the dark late-at-night photo, but I've got to take what I can get. I'm finally getting close to the finish on Bella Paquita. Since I wasn't sure I'd have enough yarn, I stopped knitting the body when it was the shortest length I'd want, and put the stitches on waste yarn. I'll go back and knit more length if I have enough yarn.

My dilemma is now the sleeve length. I can't decide whether I want to knit them to the elbows, as in the original pattern. Any thoughts? Should I just end the sleeve now, add enough length so the bottom of the sleeve reaches the top of the ribbing on the body, or go to the elbow? If I go all the way to the elbow, I think there will be just barely enough yarn, so I probably won't be able to add any length to the body, and then I'm not sure it will look well-proportioned.

To frog or not to frog. That is the question!

Thanks for your comments on my post below about Giselle. (Giselle Sizing--post immediately below this one.) I've thought of how I can fix it. I think I will run a lifeline at the point where I want the length and frog back to that point, then bind off. Then it will fit like the pattern photos. I just cannot stretch it across the bust like it is because it is too long. I measured the gauge again and found that it must have grown when it was wet blocked. Silk does funny things like that. It fit when I tried it on a few rows before I bound off. I didn't wash my initial swatch so I didn't expect it to grow like that. That will be a lesson because if I had washed the swatch, I probably would have saved about a week of knitting!

Now--here's my question. I don't have enough yarn for my second flounce and I ordered another skein. I"m wondering if I should just use the yarn that I frog from the bodice for that. My concern is that this yarn has already been blocked and has stretched out. I'm afraid that mixing it with the unblocked yarn will affect the finished flounce when it gets blocked. Should I just save the blocked yarn for another small project? It would save spending on the extra skein, but I want the thing to turn out right and I don't mind spending since I've already spend a lot on it. I've never been in this situation before. Thanks for any advice. The comments are always so helpful.

Giselle sizing

I am making the cropped version of Giselle. I wish the pattern had included a photo of the back view. I don't know how far the front pieces should wrap. Mine wraps all the way around the back and actually crosses. I'm not sure if I like the way the back looks because it hangs over where the ends cross. I followed the directions for the smallest size and got gauge. The sweater seems longer that in the photo. Perhaps it is because Marnie is taller so it fits her differently in the photos. Has anyone had the same fitting issue? I envisioned it not going all the way down to my waist. I also think the sweater needs more negative ease. I measure 34.5 and made the smallest size. I still think it is beautiful and I will get plenty of wear out of it. I have finished one sleeve flounce and discovered that I don't have enough yarn to finish the second one so I have ordered one more skein. I will finish it when the yarn arrives.

I may put it aside for a few weeks and do the crochet then. I'm having surgery on my left hand the end of the month and I know I won't be able to knit for a while. I think I can crochet though, so I will save my crochet projects and try to knit as much as I can now!

Chart Problems, and Trying Again

I'm just about to start knitting the top of Bella Paquita for the 3rd time. This one had better fit, or I'll be ripping the yarn into confetti!

There seems to be a problem with the medium charts. Marnie is aware that there's an issue, but has not had a chance to look into it yet. I thought I should post about it in case anyone else tries to knit the medium size in the meantime.

I would normally have knit the "small" size, but my yarn gauge is off since I'm using Rowan Calmer, which is a thinner yarn. Doing some number crunching told me that knitting the pattern in the large size should work. Unfortunately, either I messed up the math, my gauge changed, or it's just because the Calmer is so stretchy, the top ended up being a little looser than I wanted it to fit.

Looking at the difference between the medium and large bust sizes, I figured the medium would probably be fine. So off I went and knitted the top for the second time. This time it was way too small. I couldn't figure out how I could have such a huge difference, when there was only 1.75" difference between the pattern bust size for the medium and large.

Looking at all of the charts, I discovered that the chart for the medium top is smaller than the chart for the small top.

At first, I just figured that somehow the charts got switched, and that the "small" chart was really for the "medium" size, and vice-versa. But after crunching some numbers, I'm not so sure that's really the problem.

I don't know how Marnie calculated the circumference for the size dimensions, but I tried this:

Number of stitches across back at underarms x 2 (for front and back), divided by 4.5 stitches per inch = bust circumference.

Small chart: (78 st x 2) / 4.5 = 34.7"
Medium chart: (76 st x 2) / 4.5 = 33.8"
Large chart: (88 st x 2) / 4.5 = 39.1"

The pattern sizes for the bust show:

Small: 34.25
Medium: 37.5
Large: 39.25

The small and large come out very close to my calculations, but the medium is completely off. If the small and medium charts were just switched, I'd expect to see the "small" size come out closer to 37". So maybe the small is really the small, and the medium is just wrong. Or, maybe there's some other secret to calculating the bust size.

So anyway, I've spent the day working out my own chart, that's a little bigger than the 'small', and hopefully I'll come out OK.

As for the bottom and sleeve charts, it looks like the small top matches the small bottom, and the medium top matches the medium bottom (I compared the number of stitches at the join), but for the sleeves, the small sleeves are really smaller than the medium sleeves. I won't worry about the sleeves until I get there.

On the plus side, I really like how the Calmer is knitting up, so if I can get the size to work out, I'm sure it will be great.

Hi Folks, I've been in the sunny Caribbean for a week now (my new home!) and so haven't done a great deal of knitting....but will get back into it soon! Because I'm impatient, I've done the crochet edging around the neck line and the bottom on Bella (I'm doing the cropped version) and whilst it looks very very pretty, it is all curly (ie the knitting hasn't straightened out to lie flat). Is this normal and will it lie flat when I've blocked it when the whole thing is done?

Bella sizing question

I am finishing up Giselle and now I am preparing the pattern for Bella. I notice that the smallest size is bust 34.25 inches which happens to be my exact bust measurement. Is this the actual sweater measurement or is it meant to fit that size bust? I have found that this type of sweater fits me best with at least 2 inches of negative ease. What would be the best way to accomplish that? Knit it to a slightly smaller gauge? I have found Giselle to be a little big after knitting the smallest size and getting gauge, so it wasn't enough negative ease. Thanks for any suggestions for getting the right fit!

I have a horrible feeling it is going to be too big! I'm loving the pattern and am on the second set of waist decreases, but this morning I took the time to put the whole lot on waste yarn and try on and I fear it is going to be on the large side. I'm a 35" bust so am doing the first size inside the brackets (35.5) because I thought the 33.5 size would be too snug (ok, let's be honest, I thought I was still a 36 but they are clearly sagging with age!). I can't face frogging it all and starting again so I guess I'll just plough on and gift it to one of my more amply provided for girlfriends and then knit it again for me! Unless someone can think of an easy remedy....maybe if I increase the number of decreases per row to bring the under bust bit in more?

I learned to crochet the other weekend and am very excited about being able to do the cropped crochet version now! greetings from an unseasonably warm England in February. Liz

Bar increases on Giselle

I have a question about the bar increases on the front edges on Giselle. The pattern mentions mirrored increases. On the Purl rows, the increases are P1f&b at the beginning of the row then P1b&f at the end. However the knit rows have K1f&b at both the beginning an end of the row. Should the knit bar increase be K1b&f at the end of the row to mirror the increase at the beginning?

WoW! Some of you have finished one of the KAL sweaters and here I am starting my first one. I had a couple of other projects to finish first. I am knitting Giselle in Handmaiden Double Sea Silk. So far, the yarn is knitting to gauge and it is wonderfully soft. I love this yarn!

I am concerned though that the area which will become the sleeves looks quite small. It is hard to believe that it will wrap around my arm. I guess I will put it all on waste yarn and try it on. I can't wait to see some completed examples of Giselle.

I've pondered the posts from far-more-experienced/brave knitters than I concerning the sleeves for Bella being done in the round. I've read EZ's (Zimmerman--Knitting Without Tears) wise words more times than I can count, just could not get my pokey ol' brain in gear to understand short rows and tubular knitting. Apparently, I'm not the only person wondering about this.

So, I've done a little research (ah, the internet!) and have come up with a couple of articles from knitty.com that may be of good help in learning how to do a cap sleeve that's knit from the shoulder down without seams:

Bella Complete!

My Bella is complete. Here it is in it's unblocked form:

I used size 7 circ. needles and Valley Yarns Colrain in Olive Grey.

Loved the lace pattern. The leaves are perfect in this yarn color. It's very comfy.

If I were to do this again I would make the bottom part one size up and downsize the top by working it in size 6 needles. It focus' a little more attention on my tummy than I would like. I would also pick up stitches at the armholes and knit the sleeves down from there. I would also do a couple less repeats on the lace part. I had to cut way too much for the steeks. The steeks were moved to the back of the neck. I couldn't get them to lay right on my bony shoulders.

Other than those things, I like it!

Here's my Bella, made with Karabella Aurora 8.

I followed the pattern as is, for the most part, except for the sleeves. I did my sleeves in the round, starting from the top. I picked up 60 stitches around armhole (I made size S), starting 9 stitches before the shoulder seam, knitted the sleeve cap with short rows, and then continued in the round. I also made my sleeves a little longer than the pattern -- just kept knitting until the ball of yarn ran out.

Also, I did the lace steeks at the back corners, rather than at the shoulder seams. It seemed a more natural place for them.

And now that Bella is done, I've started on Giselle. I think I've done about 30 rows so far.

A Bella is Born

Here she is--sleeves and all! I had an easy time knitting the sleeves on two circulars (like with socks) from the top down as described in Elizabeth Zimmerman's book "Knitting Without Tears". I fiddled around with the technique and tried using wraps with the short rows (as with toe-up socks), but that looked terrible compared to just turning the work as EZ suggests and slipping the first stitch. I'll stick with doing sleeves this way since I've never been entirely happy with the bit of "bulk" that I always seem to get when sewing a set-in sleeve into the sweater body.

This pattern is a cutie, and I plan to wear it plenty! It tends to ride up a bit, so I'm not sure how much I'll be tugging at it. Perhaps it will ride up less once I seam-out a portion of the lace neckline--there's a natural turn in the lace where the pattern reverses direction at the back of the neck, so I will steek-n-cut that spot out rather than making a seam at the top of each shoulder.

Bella Paquita sleeve cap

Having successfully completed the bodice portion of Bella, I've been finishing up the first sleeve, discovering to my great dismay that knitted according to the chart, the cap is much longer than required. So, tinking with a few well-chosen words muttered under my breath back to the CO's for the cap, I am redoing everything, make the full-fashioned decreases closer-bloody-together and will hope that all turns out well. I knit to gauge, so this little glitch is cause for no small concern.

Saving the luscious lace as reward for getting the sleeves done is the perfect goad to keep me needling away by the fire these cold winter evenings!

Any thoughts on the sleeve cap conundrum?

Here's my Bella Paquita so far. I decided that I like the look of a twisted k1p1 rib better than the k2p2---for some reason, the twisted k1p1 clings to my tummy & hips in a more flattering way when compared to other k2p2 ribbed sweaters I've made. I'm making the sleeves seamlessly from the top-down (a la Elizabeth Zimmerman) with short rows & will use the twisted rib on them as well. Since I'm not all that bold, btw, I will be wearing a cami underneath when the sweater's done. Overall, this has been a fun knit, and I'm looking forward to wearing it:)

I'm am loving this! After the knitting to deadline stuff I've done recently - ploughing back and forwards across rows as fast as I can - knitting on circular needles has slowed me right down (for once I'm knitting to guage!) and this is so therapeutic (sp?!)and looks lovely. Knitting it in Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora (Maroon). Once I got started, the pattern was no way as complex as I'd thought - although I spent 10 mins with a calculator trying to figure out how many stitches I was increasing by and where after the first 17 rows.

So, I finished the top a few nights ago, and the thing looks TINY on me. I'm between sizes, so I went with the smaller one to account for later stretching. But when I tried it on the top barely covered my nips. It kinda looks like that's how marnie's fits too in the picture, but I'm worried. Maybe I'll just make the bigger size (it didn't take that long, really) and see if I like it better. Also, I've started the sleeves (in the bigger size), and they're going ok. I'm doing them top down so that I can lengthen them easily.

huge mistake

Just so others can know - when I first started, I cast on 164 stitches (I'm doing the large size). Happily knitting along, I get to the first increase. What's this? I should have only cast on 148?!? Aargh.

Well, I've gotten the first part of the top of the Bella Paquita done. I'm working on the sleeves right now and the lace will follow. I'm having a lousy times following directions. For some reason, directions and I don't play well together. I won't tell you where I goofed, that'll be my little secret, but reading are hard. That's all I'm sayin'. :)

I'm using Valley Yarn's Colrain in Olive Grey for this. I love this yarn. It's so incredibly soft and just glides on the needles. This yarn tried to appear in the Minimalist Cardigan, but it just wasn't working for me, way too much moss stitch. So, here we go again. This time, I think it's working!

Hello everyone, very excited about my first ever KAL. I'm going to be knitting Giselle in Debbie Bliss (Angora, cotton mix) in Maroon. I got the yarn for a steal on e-bay; and being the world's most impatient knitter, I'm knitting it on 4mm (all that was available at my LYS) rather than the 3.75 my swatch indicates....so I'm going to knit the next size down with the hope that it'll turn out the right size in the end. Rather nervous about the pattern which is about the most complicated thing I've ever seen!

Bella Shoulder Shaping

Hi everyone. I have been working on Bella and just finished the top. There were some questions about the shoulder shaping. Here is how I worked mine. I used a combination of short rows for the front, and slipping the extra stitches on the back. This left all of the stitched on the needle for the 3 needle bind-off. It left a "long stitch" on the inside (as you can see in the pic), but over all I think it worked pretty well. I'm so excited, this is my first KAL. (In case anyone is interested, I am using Patons Classic Wool in Leaf green)

I have had this Horstia Maulbeerseide Schurwolle (say that three times fast) in my stash for three years, and now I'm going to use it for Bella Paquita. Hooray! Wow, talk about creative! This pattern is definitely outside the box. No wonder Marnie's stuff is so amazing. It took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do but I think I'm getting it. I had to really think about which way to make the increases since it's up to us and that reminded me of Annie Modesitt's and EZ's philosophies about leaving the "how" to the knitter. I am loving it so far. I decided not to be too anal and am just highlighting the row just finished on the chart so my eye knows where to fall. That worked for the mystery stole 3 although on that one I also had vertical lines every 10 stitches cause there was so much going on. Well I just thought I'd connect with my fellow (addicts) knitters. Enjoy!

At the time voting ended (which was midnight last Monday night) we had an even tie between Bella Paquita and Giselle (both by Marnie MacLean). Bella Paquita is a free pattern from Marnie's site, and Giselle is available at Stitch Diva for $7.00. At the time voting ended, Snow White by Ysolda had 11% of the votes so will not be included in this KAL despite coming in a close third. There are no other knit alongs (that I'm aware of) for the Snow White pattern, but for those of you who prefer to knit it, please feel free to start your own knit along for it!

We'll officially begin the Bella Paquita/Giselle KAL on January 21st and will continue it until the end of March, but for those of you who are chomping at the bit to start, please feel free!

Tree Jacket Dilema

I know we're currently voting on another project and all but I am a slow knitter and I am still working on the tree jacket and I ran into a problem.

Alright, so here's the deal.

I am on row 23 of the 24 rows that I am supposed to work before I separate the sleeves. Here's the problem.. At the beginning of row 23 I have 248 stitches. After I do my increases and then purl all the way around I will have 255 at row 24.

After I do my increases and then purl around I'll have 262 (at end of row 24).

Problem: I should have 272. Do I rip all the way back to the color for 10 stitches? I don't know how to adapt patterns very well so I can't alter the pattern and expect it to fit. Neither, sound pleasant. So I was wondering if there is a way to add 10 extra stitches without having a huge hole or making it noticeable?

Please help me! I really don't want to rip back!

I guess I have to say that I am a little disappointed in the nominations that were overlooked. 8 skeins of Tahki Savoy (52% silk, 48% merino: 109 yards per skein, color 104)
Addi Turbo needles size 8: 16 and 24 inch

Modifications: Altered the lace pattern to K3, K2tog, YO, K1, YO, SSK which kept the pattern from twisting.
Otherwise I knit exactly to pattern specifications.

I will say that this yarn is one of the softest things I have had against my skin and it feels fabulous. I'm also always amazed at how silk/wool blend yarns totally change when wet blocked. The stitches meld together and look so much more even!
This one is a winner!

I'm going to go ahead and nominated the Tilted Duster. I know many people like this and are planning to (me) or have already knit this. It seems like a good one to put up for the KAL, since many people could give advice, and hopefully many will be interested in knitting it!

The pattern is FREE and is knit in a standard worsted/aran weight yarn and is available from size 32 inch chest to 48 inch chest.

I have been really interested in knitting a jacket or cardigan that can be worn out and about in the cool but not too cold climate I seem to find myself living in.

I would nominate the Tilted Duster but it seems half the world is already knitting it. I can nominate it if anyone is interested.

I like so many of the patterns already nominated. However, I'd like to also nominate this voluminous shrug by Barry Klein. The pattern can be downloaded in PDF form here. It's a k5, p5 rib using 3 different yarns in a single stripe pattern, and can be modified fairly easily for larger gauge yarns.

Juliet unblocked

I started Juliet on Wednesday 11/27
and basically finished knitting it on Sunday 12/2 here are a couple of pictures.
I used Cascade 220 in Red 9404 on size 8 needles.

I changed the garter stitch pattern to moss stitch and only
used a single strand of yarn.
