And I think the pattern did assume you knew to just join your new yarn and purl (as the first row of your knitting is purling) all the stitches that got picked up from the crochet process. So, pretend that you have half a sweater on your needles and you just need to attach a new ball of yarn. Simple as that. The only difference is that you will be able to unravel the cast on edge very easily to place those live stitches on your needles when you get to that point. I haven't check out Wendy's tutorial but to answer your question, just knit the stitches and those new stitches will be your "cast on" edge.
